 Documentary on 1st Hindu prayer of US Senate The historic first Hindu prayer of United States Senate of last July is one of the significant topics in a new documentary film, “ARTICLE VI: Faith’ Politics’ America”, due to be commercially released in
theaters on September 19.

The scene when Rajan Zed, well-known Hindu leader, who read this first
prayer in the 218 years history of the Senate, was protested, appears
prominently in the documentary. This documentary also shows the
interviews of protesters and others about their reactions to Hindu
prayer in the Senate, besides Zed.

Directed by Bryan D Hall and Jack Donaldson under Living Biography
Media banner, this documentary, which took over two years to make and which is making big splashes in pre-screenings across the nation,
offers an intense discussion of the role of faith in politics and
examination of the religious freedom and intolerance in America.

The filmmakers travelled across USA as they interviewed religious
voices like national radio host Hugh Hewitt, Former Chief Justice of
Alabama Supreme Court Roy Moore, Internet Evangelist Bill Keller,
Christian Rights Advocate David French, Pastor Robert Jeffress of
Dallas, Richard Land of Southern Baptist Convention, Reverend Flip
Benham of Operation Save America, religion professor Randall Balmer of
Columbia University, etc.

According to Hall, Somerset Films is helping in the distribution/ exhibition of this documentary, which he wants to exhibit
in various foreign countries also after the US release.

ಅರಮನೆ ರಿಲೀಸ್ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಮನಸಿನ ಮರ್ಮರ…ಬ್ಲಾಗ್ನ ವಿಜಯ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಕನ್ನಂತ್ ಅವರು ಬರೆದ ಅರಮನೆ ಚಿತ್ರ ಕುರಿತ ಮೊದಲ ನೋಟವನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪುನರ್ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಅರಮನೆ ಕುರಿತು ಇತರರೂ ತಮ್ಮ first impression ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು.

ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ ಅರಮನೆ ಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಿ ಹೊರಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದಿದು. ಚಿತ್ರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಕುರಿತು ಕೇಳಿ ಬಂದ ಅಪಾರ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಯ ಮಾತುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ರ ಅಪಾರ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ ವಿವರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಅಪಾರ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಲು ಹೋದರೆ ಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಿ ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಧದಷ್ಟು ಮಾತ್ರ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಸಮಾಧಾನ - ಇನ್ನರ್ಧ ಅಸಮಾಧಾನ. ಹಾಗಂತ ಚಿತ್ರ ತೀರಾ ಕಳಪೆಯಾಗೇನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಪ್ರಥಮಾರ್ಧ ನೋಡಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಖುಷಿ ಚಿತ್ರ ಮುಗಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಉಳಿಯೋದಿಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನೋದು ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಸತ್ಯ. ಮಧ್ಯಂತರದ ನಂತರದ ‘ಎಳೆತ’ವನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸುವ ತಾಳ್ಮೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ನೋಡಲು ಅಡ್ಡಿಯಿಲ್ಲ.

ಚಿತ್ರದ ಹೆಸರೇ ಹೇಳುವಂತೆ ಅದೊಂದು ಅರಮನೆಯಂತಹ ಮನೆಯ ಸುತ್ತ ಹೆಣೆದ ಕಥೆ. ಇಡೀ ಅರಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರೋದು ಅರಮನೆಯ ರಾಜ  ರಾಜಶೇಖರ್ ಅರಸ್(ಅನಂತ್ ನಾಗ್) ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಸೇವಕ ಬಸಯ್ಯ(ಕರಿಬಸವಯ್ಯ). ಗತಿಸಿ ಹೋದ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯ ನೆನಪಲ್ಲೇ ಕೊರಗುತ್ತಾ, ಮೂರು ಹೊತ್ತೂ ಮದಿರೆಯ ಮತ್ತಲ್ಲೇ ತೇಲುತ್ತಾ ಇರುವ ಅರಸ. ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಫೋಟೋ ತೆಗೆಯೋಕೆ ಬರೋದು ಅರುಣ ಅನ್ನೋ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಗಣೇಶ. ತಾತ.. ತಾತ.. ಅಂತ ಕರೆಯುವ, ಚಿನುಕುರುಳಿಯಂತೆ ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತ ಕತ್ತಲೆ ತುಂಬಿದ ಅರಮನೆಗೆ ಅರುಣನಿಂದ ನವ ಅರುಣೋದಯ. ತಮ್ಮ ಎಂದಿನ ಲವಲವಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಪಂಚಿಂಗ್ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಂದ ಅರಸ್‌ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ವೀಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೂ ಅರುಣ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತಾತನ ನೋವಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ನಗು ನಗು ಅಂತ ನಗೆಯ ಮಂತ್ರ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ಚಾರ್ಲಿ ಚಾಪ್ಲಿನ್ , ರಾಜ್ ಕಪೂರ್ ಏನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆಗಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಮರಣಶಯ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಪತ್ನಿಯ ಮಾತಿನಂತೆ ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಲು ಹೊರಟ ಅರಸ್ ಮಕ್ಕಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ದೂರಾಗಿ…ಅರಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಸ್ ಏಕಾಂಗಿ. ಅವರನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅರಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿಸಿ ‘ಫ್ಯಾಮಿಲಿ ಫೋಟೋ’ ತೆಗೆಯಬೇಕೆನ್ನೋ ತಾತನ ಆಸೆಗೆ ಅರುಣ ಒತ್ತಾಸೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ..ಭರವಸೆ ತುಂಬುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಈ ಭರವಸೆ ಈಡೇರಿಸಲು ಅರುಣನ ಹುಡುಕಾಟ, ನಡು-ನಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹುಡುಗಾಟ, ಅರಸ್ ಹಿರೀ ಮಗಳು ಭಾವೀ ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಜೊತೆ ಅಲೆದಾಟ-ಚೆಲ್ಲಾಟ, ಆಕೆ ಬೇರೆಯವನ ಪ್ರೇಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿದವಳೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದಾಗ ಪರದಾಟ, ಆಮೇಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬರೀ ದೊಂಬರಾಟ !! ಇದಿಷ್ಟು ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರೋ ಕಥೆಯ ಇಣುಕು ನೋಟ. ಮುಂದೆ……??

ಅಭಿನಯದ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ್ರೆ ಗಣೇಶ್, ಅನಂತ್ ನಾಗ್‌ಗೆ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಜಿದ್ದಾಜಿದ್ದಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದವರಂತೆ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸಿ ಸೈ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರೆ, ರೋಮಾ ಅಭಿನಯ ಅಷ್ಟೇನೂ ರೋಮಾಂಚಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಕರಿಬಸವಯ್ಯ ಪಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಒದಗಿಸಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರೆ, ತಾರಾ, ಅವಿನಾಶ್‌ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸ್ಕೋಪ್ ಇರ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಚಿತ್ರದ ಮೊದಲಾರ್ಧದ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನ ಸಿಂಹಪಾಲು ತುಷಾರ್ ರಂಗನಾಥ್ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ; ಕೆಲವು ಡೈಲಾಗುಗಳು ಪಂಚ್‌ನಿಂದಾಗಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತವೆ. ಕವಿರಾಜ್ ಬರೆದ ಕವಿತೆಯಂತಹ ಹಾಡು ಪತ್ರ ಬರೆಯಲಾ ಇಲ್ಲ ಚಿತ್ರ ಬಿಡಿಸಲಾ…ಚಿತ್ರ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ನಗೆ ನಗೆ ಹಾಡು ಕೂಡಾ ಪರವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಕೊಲ್ಲೇ ನನ್ನನ್ನು.. ಹಾಡಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡುಗಾರ-ಸಂಗೀತಗಾರ ಗುರುಕಿರಣ್ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ಚಿತ್ರ ಎಡವಿದ್ದೆಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತೀರಾ? ಮೊದಲನೆಯದಾಗಿ ಗಟ್ಟಿ ಚಿತ್ರ ಕಥೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡದೆ ಇರುವಲ್ಲಿ. ಎರಡನೆಯದಾಗಿ ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳು ತೀರಾ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರ ಸಹನೆ ಮೀರುವಷ್ಟು ಎಳೆದಾಡಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ದ್ವಿತೀಯಾರ್ಧದ ಕಥೆಯ ಜಾಡು ಮಾಮೂಲಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಊಹಿಸಿದಂತೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದು ಕೂಡಾ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿಸಿದೆ ಅಂತ ನನ್ನ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ. ಡೈಲಾಗು, ಹಾಡು ಎಷ್ಟೇ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದ್ರೂ ಕೂಡಾ ಗಟ್ಟಿ ಕಥೆಯ ತಳಪಾಯ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅರಮನೆ ಕಟ್ಟಬಹುದೇ ಹೊರತು ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಮನೆ ಕಟ್ಟೋಕಾಗುತ್ತಾ ಹೇಳಿ?

ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆಯಾಗಿ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್ ಪ್ರಥಮ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ನ್ಯೂನ್ಯತೆಯ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ ಉತ್ತಮ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಲಡ್ಡಿಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಗಣೇಶ್, ಅನಂತ್ ಅಭಿನಯ ನೋಡೋಕೆ, ಗುರುಕಿರಣ್ ಸಂಗೀತ, ಕವಿರಾಜ್, ಕಾಯ್ಕಿಣಿ ಪದಗಳ ಮಾಧುರ್ಯ ಸವಿಯೋಕೆ ಅಂತ ‘ಟೈಂಪಾಸ್’ಗಾಗಿ ಒಂದ್ಸಲ ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಆದ್ರೆ ಫಸ್ಟ್ ಹಾಫ್ ನೋಡಿ ಸೆಕೆಂಡ್ ಹಾಫ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇಟ್ಕೋಬೇಡಿ ಅನ್ನೋ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಮರೆಯಬೇಡಿ.

television and the film indsutry in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai,
Chennai and Punjab — producers, service-providers, suppliers, media,
advertising agencies, artists, actors, directors, editors, colour
labs, computer-related services, etc.

Weaving together tales of the struggle of individuals versus the nation and exploring the role of censorship in arts is a festival of political films and documentaries that opens at India International Centre in the Capital beginning this coming Monday.

Tilted “Persistence resistance: A festival of contemporary political films”, the three-day show will screen 100 films showcasing a range of subjects and forms and interrogate the emerging aesthetics of political film-making. It will re-emphasise the fact that political films are no longer bound by the binaries of the past, perhaps developed during war film-making.

Besides screening films in regional languages like Tamil, Telugu and Bengali, the festival will also show South African, Norwegian, German and Serbian movies.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Magic Lantern Foundation’s Gargi Sen said award-winning films both national and international would be screened. “These films will have a storyline on different issues plaguing society. We want these films to be in circulation and are even encouraging colleges to screen these contentious films.”

Stating that the festival will also carry a section on international documentaries that are difficult to access in our country, Ms. Sen said: “Although these films deal with issues and themes that are unique and not very well known in India, there is indeed a common resonance. So the festival is also an attempt to explore the notions of internationalism in the present scenario of neo-liberal globalisation. “

Organised by Magic Lantern Foundation in collaboration with India International Centre, the films will showcase a retrospective of the works of desi film makers — R.V. Ramani, Sehjo Singh, Paromita Vohra and Madhushree Dutta — as well as South African film maker Rehad Desai.

A highlight of the festival will be an exploration of the confluence of literature, theatre and films through the works of Habib Tanvir, an illustrated talk by Sudhanwa Deshpande and the Delhi premiere of a film on Tanvir.

Some of the films traverse a vast spectrum of human landscape striving for different styles of existence, acknowledging differences of experience in fighting homogenisation. Films will be screened from the collection of movies that are distributed through Under Construction, a non-broadcast, non-commercial, educational distribution initiative.

ಚಿತ್ರದ ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಅದ್ಧೂರಿಯಾಗಿ ಮುಗಿಯಿತು.ಇಡೀ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಘಟಾನುಘಟಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಬಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಮೇರು ನಟ ಆ ಚಿತ್ರದ ನಾಯಕ. ತಾರಾ ಮೌಲ್ಯದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರ. ಬಾಂಬೆಯಿಂದ ಹಿಂದಿ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಭೂಮಿ ತೂಕದ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಟರೂ ಇದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ಆ ಚಿತ್ರದ ನಾಯಕನ ತಂದೆಯ ಪಾತ್ರ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಹಿಂದಿ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಪ್ರಮುಖರೂ ಮುಹೂರ್ತಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ರಚಿಸಿದವರು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ಅಣ್ಣ. ಕಡಿಮೆ ಜನವೇನಲ್ಲ. ಅವರೂ ಕೆಲವು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ರಚಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ಬರೆಯುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಎತ್ತಿದ ಕೈ. ಆ ಸರಸ್ವತಿಯನ್ನ ತನ್ನ ಕಚ್ಚೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೀನಿ ಎಂಬುದು ಆಗಾಗ್ಗೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೊಚ್ಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮಾತುಗಳು. ಅವರ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಎರಡು ಮಾತಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಾಲಹರಣ ಮಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಂತೋಷ.

ಆಗ ಇನ್ನೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಲನ ಚಿತ್ರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಪೂರ್ತಾ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಚಿತ್ತೀಕರಣವೊಂದು ಮಾತ್ರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಂಗವಾಗಿ ನೆರವೇರಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಉಳಿದ ಚಿತ್ರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ಸಕಲ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಕೆಲಸ ಬೊಗಸೆಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಮದ್ರಾಸಿನಲ್ಲೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ತೆಲುಗು ತಮಿಳಿನ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರೆಲ್ಲ ಮದ್ರಾಸಿನವರೇ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ. ಅವರು ಚಿತ್ರ ತಯಾರಿಕೆಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ರೆಡಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ನಾಯಕ ನಾಯಕಿ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುವ ಕಲಾವಿದರ ಡೇಟ್ ಗಳಿಂದು ಹಿಡಿದು ಚಿತ್ರ ತಯಾರಿಕೆಯ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳೂ ಅವರ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತಿದ್ದುವು. ಆದರೆ ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆ ರಚಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಯಾ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಪಂಡಿತ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತರ ಕಾಲನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯ ಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂದಾಗೆಲ್ಲ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಬಿದ್ದಾಗೆಲ್ಲ ಇವರನ್ನೇ ಅವಲಂಬಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರು ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಆದಿನಾಥದಲ್ಲೋ ಚಾಮುಂದೇಶ್ವರಿಯಲ್ಲೋ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರ ಖರ್ಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನಿನಿ ಮದಿರೆಗಳ ಸಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲಹರಣ ಮಾಡಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆ ರೆಡಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಇವರು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದ ದಿನ ಅವರು ಬಹಳ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ನಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಆ ಲಾಡ್ಜು ಹೋಟೆಲ್ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಹುಡುಗರಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಅಭಿಮಾನ. ಮದ್ರಾಸಿನವರು ಲಾಡ್ಜಿನ ಮುಂದೆ ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಮೆಸೇಜು ಬಂದು ಬಿಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.

ಇವರಿಗೆ ಅಡ್ವಾನ್ಸ್ ಕೊಟ್ಟು, ರೂಂ ಮಾಡಿ, ಅಷ್ಟೂ ದಿನದ ಇವರೆಲ್ಲ ಖರ್ಚುಗಳನ್ನು ಭರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರು ಮಟ್ಟಿಲೇರಿ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಇತ್ತ ರೂಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳು, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ರೀಮುಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಇರುವ ಬಿಳಿ ಹಾಳೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೊಂದನ್ನೇ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಸರಸರ ಅಂತಾ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಸಾಲು, ಒಂದೂವರೆ ಸಾಲು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನನ್ನಾದರೂ ಗೀಚಿ, ಶಿಷ್ಯವೃತ್ತಿಗೆಂದು ಬಂದವರಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಸೇವೆಗೆಂದೇ ಮೀಸಲಾಗಿ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಂಡ ಗಿಂಡಿ ಮಾಣಿಯಂಥ ಹುಡುಗನ ಕೈಗೆ ಕೊಡುವುದು, ಅವನು ಆ ಹಾಳೆಗಳನ್ನು ಉಂಡೆ ಮಾಡಿ ರೂಮಿನ ತುಂಬ ಬಂದವರ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣುವಂತೆ ರೊಯ್ಯನೆ ಎಸೆದು ಪ್ಲೇಸ್ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರು ಬಾಗಿಲ ಬಳಿ ಬರುವ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ದೃಶ್ಯದ ಸೆಟ್ ರೆಡಿ. ಇನ್ನು ಉಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಆಕ್ಟಿಂಗ್.

ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರು ಭಯಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ರೂಮನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿದರೆ ಆಗ ತಾನೆ ರೆಡಿಯಾದ ಸೆಟ್ಟಿಂಗ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಚಿ.ಸಾ.ಗಳು ತಪೋನಿರತ ಋಷಿಮುನಿಗಳ ಭಂಗಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೆನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ತಮ್ಮ ಕ್ರಿಯೇಟೀವ್ ಧ್ಯಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮಾಧಿಯಾಗಿರುವುದು ಕಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಮುಂದೆ ಟೇಬಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಾಲ್ಕಾರು ಸಾಲುಗಳನ್ನ ಗೀಚಿರುವ ಹಾಳೆ. ಧ್ಯಾನ ಭಂಗ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಭಯ. ಆ ದೃಶ್ಯದೊಳಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಹಾಗೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದಂತೂ ಮನವರಿಕೆಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅದೇನೆಂದರೆ ತಾವು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಿಂದಿರುವ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ರಚನೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಮುಗಿದಿಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುವ ಸತ್ಯ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಓದಲು ಬರದಿದ್ದರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರದ  ರಿಲೀಸ್ ಪ್ರಿಂಟೇ ಆ ಹಾಳೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ನಾಲ್ಕಾರು ಸಾಲು ಗೀಚಿ ಅರ್ಧಕ್ಕೇ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಹಾಳೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಣ್ಣಾಡಿಸಿ ಅದೇ ನೋಟವನ್ನು ಗಿಂಡಿ ಮಾಣಿಯ ಮುಖದ ಮೇಲೆ ಡಯಾಗನಲ್ ಪ್ಯಾನ್ ಮಾಡಿ ಎಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಬಂತು ಎಂದು ಹುಬ್ಬಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇವನು ಆ ಚೋರ ಗುರುವಿನ ಪರಮ ಶಿಷ್ಯ. ತಾನಿರುವ ಭಂಗಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ನಿಶ್ಚಲನಾಗಿ ಶಿಲೆಯಂತೆ ಕುಳಿತು ನೋಟವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಗುರುಗಳ ಕಡೆಗೊಂದು ಸಾರಿ ಪ್ಯಾನ್ ಮಾಡಿ ಅಥಿಥಿಗಳ ಕಡೆಗೆ ರಿವರ್ಸ್ ಪ್ಯಾನ್ ಮಾಡಿದವನೆ ಸ್ಯಾಂಕ್ಟಿಟಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಳು ಮಾಡಬೇಡಿ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಕಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಸೂಚಿಸಿ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಗಂಬೀರ ಮಾಡಿಬಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ಇದೆಲ್ಲದರ ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ ಮದ್ರಾಸಿನಿಂದ ಬಂದವರಿಗೆಸಮಾಧಿ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗುರುಗಳಿಂದ  ತಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಏನೋ ಮಹತ್ತರವಾದುದು ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ಕಾರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ  ಮೂಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.

ಇಷ್ಟಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ಸಮಾಧಿ ಸ್ಥತಿಯಿಂದ ಈ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದವರೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರ ಇರುವು ಈಗ ತಾನೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಅರಿವಿಗೆ ಬಂದವರಂತೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಕುಶಲ ಕೇಳಿ ಗಿಂಡಿ ಮಾಣಿಯನ್ನು ತನಗೇಕೆ ಅವರ ಆಗಮನವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಬೆಂಡೆತ್ತಬೇಕು. ಆಗಂತುಕರು ಅವನದೇನೂ ತಪ್ಪಿಲ್ಲ. ತಾವೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಏಕಾಗ್ರತೆಗೆ ಭಂಗ ತರಲು ಇಷ್ಟ ಪಡಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಸಮಾಧಾನ ಮಾಡ ಬೇಕು. ನಂಯತರ ಇವರು ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಎಳೆಯನ್ನು ಹಿಗ್ಗಾ ಮುಗ್ಗಾ  ಹೊಗಳಿ ಆ ಎಳೆ ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಚಾಲೆಂಜಿಂಗಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದರೆ ತಮಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟೂ ದಿನದಿಂದ ಒಂದು ವಾಕ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಬರೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕೇ ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಉಬ್ಬಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಆ ನಿರ್ಮಪಕರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಆಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಹಣ ನೀಡಿ ವಾಪಸ್ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಡೆಡ್ ಲೈನಿನ ಭರವಸೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ.

ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು, ಬೆಳೆದಿದ್ದು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಡಕೆಯ ತವರೂರಾದ ಶಿರಸಿಯಲ್ಲಿ. ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ಸಂಗೀತದ ಮೇಲೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮಧು ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದ ಆಸ್ಟಿನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ವೇರ್ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞ. ‘ಮಧುವನ’ ಇವರ ಬ್ಲಾಗ್. ಸರಳವಾಗಿ ಮನಮುಟ್ಟುವಂತೆ ಬರೆಯುವುದು ಇವರ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆ. ಲಲಿತ ಪ್ರಬಂಧಗಳಂತೆ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವ ಶೈಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗಿಬಿದುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಡಿನ ಬೆನ್ನತ್ತುವುದು ಇವರ ಹವ್ಯಾಸ. ಹಾಗೆ ಬೆನ್ನು ಹತ್ತಿದ ಒಂದು ತುಣುಕು ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲೂ ಸಂಗೀತವೇ…

ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ್ ಗುಂಡ್ಕಲ್ ನಮ್ಮ ನಡುವಿನ ಸಂವೇದನಾಶೀಲ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ. ಸಿನೆಮಾ ಪತ್ರಿಕೋದ್ಯಮ ಕಂಡ ಉತ್ತಮ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ. ‘ಪಿಚ್ಚರ್’ ಅವರ ಬ್ಲಾಗ್. ಒಂದು ಸಿನಿಮಾವನ್ನು, ಸಿನೆಮಾ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರ್ ಅವರಿಂದ ಕಲಿಯಬೇಕು. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಅವರು ಗಣೇಶನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬರೆದ ಈ ಲೇಖನವನ್ನೇ ಓದಿ ನೋಡಿ. ‘ಅರಮನೆ’ ತೆರೆಗೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿರುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಬರಹ ನೀವು ಓದಲೇಬೇಕು.

ಅರಮನೆಗೆ ಮೊದಲು ಸಿಗುವ ಮನೆ ಕತೆಯಿದು. ತ್ಯಾಗರಾಜ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನಾಗಸಂದ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಗಲ್ಲಿ. ಅದು ಮಾಡೆಲ್‌ಹೌಸ್‌ ಸ್ಟ್ರೀಟ್‌. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದಾದ ರೂಮು ಅಥವಾ ರೂಮು ಎಂದು ಕರೆದುಬಿಡಬಹುದಾದ ಮನೆ. ಆ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಮನೆಗೊಂದು ಟೆರೇಸು.

ನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದಿನ ರಾತ್ರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಟೆರೇಸಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತು ಇನ್ನೂ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗಿದ್ದ ತಾರೆ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಮತ್ತು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗಿದ್ದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಹರಟೆ ಹೊಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಮೈಗೊಂದು ಟವೆಲ್‌ ಸುತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡು ಆಕಾಶದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾರೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾ ಬದಲಾಗದ ತಮ್ಮ ತಾರಾಬಲದ ಕುರಿತು ಗೊಂದಲಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಸಣ್ಣದೊಂದು ಸಿನಿಮಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸಣ್ಣದೊಂದು ಪಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ ಹಣದಲ್ಲೇ ತಿಂಗಳು ಮುಗಿಸುವ ಆಲೋಚನೆಯ ನಡುವೆ ದಿನಾ ರಾತ್ರಿ ತಾರೆ ಟೆರೇಸ್‌ ಪರ್‌!

ಪ್ರತಿದಿನವೂ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಹನ್ನೆರಡೂವರೆ ಗಂಟೆಯಾಗಿ ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ನಂತರ ಒಂದು ವಿಮಾನ ಹಾರಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈ ವಿಮಾನ ಹಾರಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಲೇ ಹುಡುಗರ ಮಾತುಕತೆ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಕಷ್ಟದ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಸದಾ ಆಶಾವಾದಿ. `ನೋಡ್ತಿರು ಗೆಳೆಯಾ. ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಬರುತ್ತೆ. ಆ ದಿನ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸೋದಕ್ಕೇ ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗೊಲ್ಲ. ಅಂಥಾ ದಿನ ಬರುತ್ತೆ’ ಎಂದು ದಿನವೂ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯದಿಂದ ಕಾಣೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವಿಮಾನ ನೋಡುತ್ತ ಕುಳಿತಿರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ದಿನಗಳು ಕಳೆದವು. ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಮತ್ತು ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ನಾಗಸಂದ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ ಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಮನೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲೇ ಮಳೆ ಬಂದು ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ದೊಡ್ಡ ನಟರಾದರು. ಆಗಲೇ ಚೆಲ್ಲಾಟ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಹುಡುಗಾಟ ಬರುವುದರಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. `ಕೃಷ್ಣ’ ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕಾಕ್‌ಗೆ ಹೊರಟಿದ್ದರು. ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದ `ಆ ಒಂದು ದಿನ ‘ ಆಗಲೇ ಬಂದುಬಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು.

ಗಣೇಶ್‌ಗೆ ಮೊದಲ ವಿದೇಶ ಪ್ರವಾಸ. ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ಗೆ ಸಂಭ್ರಮವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಗಣೇಶ್‌ರನ್ನು ಬೀಳ್ಕೊಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಆ ದಿನ ರಾತ್ರಿ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಅದು ನಡುರಾತ್ರಿಯ ವಿಮಾನ. ಹನ್ನೆರಡೂವರೆ ಗಂಟೆಯಾಗಿ ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ನಂತರ ವಿಮಾನ ಹಾರುವುದೆಂದು ನಿಗದಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ಗೆ ಪುನಃ ನಾಗಸಂದ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ ನೆನಪಾಯಿತು. ಮಾಡೆಲ್‌ ಹೌಸ್‌ ಸ್ಟ್ರೀಟ್‌ ನೆನಪಾಯಿತು. ಟೆರೇಸು, ತಾರೆಗಳು, ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಹರಟೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅದೇ ಸಮಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾರುವ ವಿಮಾನ. ಬಹುಶಃ ಈಗ ಅದೇ ವಿಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕಾಕ್‌ಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ!

`ಹಾಗಂತ ನನಗೆ ಅನಿಸಿತು’ ಎಂದು ನೆನಪು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌. ತಾರೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತ ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಗೆಳೆಯ ತಾರೆಯೇ ಆಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಬದುಕಲ್ಲೂ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದವು. `ಸಂಜು ವೆಡ್ಸ್‌ ಗೀತಾ’ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಒಂದು ಕತೆ ಬರೆದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಇದೊಂದು ಮದುವೆ ಕತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಳೆಯ ಕತೆ. ಆಗಷ್ಟೇ `ಮುಂಗಾರು ಮಳೆ’ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಅದನ್ನು ಕೈಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತ, ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಾಹಕ ಚಂದ್ರು ಒಂದು ಎಳೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಖುಷಿಯಾದರು. ಪ್ರೀತಮ್‌ ಗುಬ್ಬಿ ಚಿತ್ರಕತೆ ಬರೆಯಲು ನೆರವಾದರು. ರಂಗ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಗೆ ಕುಳಿತರು. ಹತ್ತು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ `ಅರಮನೆ’ಯ ನೀಲಿನಕ್ಷೆ ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಯಿತು.

ಆ ಮಂಜು ಕೆ ಮಂಜು

ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಸಂಜೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕ ಜಾಕ್‌ ಮಂಜು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕತೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌. ಕತೆ ಕೇಳಿ ಅವರು ಖುಷಿಯಾದರು. `ಒಂದಿನ ಟೈಮ್‌ ಕೊಡಿ. ನಾಳೆ ಮಾತಾಡೋಣ’ ಎಂದರು. ಕತೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಕಾಯುವುದೂ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ ಅನಿಸಿತು. ಮರುದಿನ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆಯೇ ಅವರು ಕೆ ಮಂಜು ಎದುರು ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದರು. ಆ ದಿನ ಮಂಜು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಹಬ್ಬ. ಕತೆ ಕೇಳಿದ ಮಂಜು ರೋಮಾಂಚಿತರಾಗಿ(!) ಎದ್ದು ನಿಂತು ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷದ ಒಂದು ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಅಡ್ವಾನ್ಸ್‌ ಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಜೊತೆ ಫೋನಲ್ಲೇ ಮಾತುಕತೆಯಾಯಿತು. ಗೆಳೆಯನ ಸಿನಿಮಾವನ್ನು ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಕತೆ ಕೇಳದೇ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಸಂಭ್ರಮದಿಂದ ಹೊರಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ಗೆ ಆ ಮಂಜು ಫೋನ್‌. ಮುಂಗಡ ಹಣ ಕೊಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆಂದು ಅವರು ಫೋನ್‌ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು.

ಇಂಥ ಆಕಸ್ಮಿಕಗಳ ಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಒಂದಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದರಂತೆ ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಡುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಂಡ್ಯದ ಮಳವಳ್ಳಿಯ ಪಕ್ಕದ ದಲಿತ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು, ಹಟದಿಂದ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್‌ ಮೀಡಿಯಮ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿದ್ದು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದು, ಪುನಃ ಮಂಡ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಎಂಜಿನೀಯರಿಂಗ್‌ ಓದಿದ್ದು, ವಾಪಸ್‌ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ನಾಟಕ, ಧಾರಾವಾಹಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಧಾರಾವಾಹಿಯಿಂದ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಪ್ರಪಂಚಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೂ ಒಂದು ಕತೆ. `ನಿನಗಾಗಿ’ ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಮಹೇಂದರ್‌ ನಾಯಕಿಯಹುಡುಕಾಟದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರ ಸಹನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಶಶಾಂಕ್‌ ಟೀವಿ ಧಾರಾವಾಹಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಮುಖದ ಹುಡುಕಾಟ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಹುಡುಗಿಯೊಬ್ಬಳ ಅಭಿನಯ ಅಳೆಯಲು ಶಶಾಂಕ್‌ ಒಂದು ಸೀನ್‌ ನೋಡಬೇಕಾಯಿತು. ಆ ಸೀನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಕೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸಿದ್ದು ಇದೇ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌. ಸೀನ್‌ ಮುಗಿಯುವ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ `ನಿನಗಾಗಿ’ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಪಾತ್ರವೊಂದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಭಾವನೆಗಳ ಅರಮನೆ

ಪ್ರೀತಿ ತುಂಬಿದ ಪ್ರತೀ ಗೂಡೂ ಅರಮನೆ.

ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಅರಮನೆಯೂ ಸೆರೆಮನೆ!

ಇಂಥದ್ದೊಂದು ಎಳೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ `ಅರಮನೆ’ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ 55 ದಿನ ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಂತ್‌ನಾಗ್‌ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಂಥದ್ದೊಂದು ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಆಗುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮಂಜು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಸಹಕಾರವನ್ನು ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. `ನನ್ನ ಸಹನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರೂ ಮಂಜು. ಪ್ರೊಡಕ್ಷನ್‌ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜರೂ ಮಂಜು. ಅಷ್ಟು ಸಹಕಾರ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ’ ಎಂದು ಖುಷಿ ಪಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌.

ನಾಯಕ ನಟ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಭಿನ್ನವಾದ ಪಾತ್ರ. `ಮುಂಗಾರು ಮಳೆ’ ಮತ್ತು `ಗಾಳಿಪಟ’ ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಭಿನ್ನವಾದ ಮಾತಿನ ಶೈಲಿ. `ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಅದನ್ನು ತುಂಬಾ ಅದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿ ನಿಭಾಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸೀರಿಯಸ್ಸಾಗಿ ಹೇಳ್ತೀನಿ. ಗಣೇಶ್‌ಗೆ ಏನೋ ಆಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಆತ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸುತ್ತಿರೋ ರೀತಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಆಗುತ್ತೆ’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು.

ಅರಮನೆ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರೇಮಕತೆ. ಭಾವನೆಗಳ ಸುತ್ತ ಸುತ್ತುವ ಕತೆ. ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರು ಹಾಡುಗಳಿವೆ. ಮೂರು ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಕವಿರಾಜ್‌ ಬರೆದರೆ ಉಳಿದ ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಜಯಂತ್‌, ಯೋಗರಾಜ್‌ ಭಟ್‌ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಗೇಂದ್ರಪ್ರಸಾದ್‌ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಗುರುಕಿರಣ್‌ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಾಡುಗಳು ಹಿಟ್‌ ಆಗುತ್ತವೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಿಗೆ ಅನುಮಾನಗಳಿಲ್ಲ. ಮಾರ್ಚ್‌ ಮೊದಲ ವಾರ ಹಾಡುಗಳು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತವೆ.

ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಓದು

`ನನಗೆ ಮೊದಲಿಂದಲೂ ಬಂಗಾರದ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಇಷ್ಟ. ಕಸ್ತೂರಿ ನಿವಾಸ ಇಷ್ಟ. ಪುಟ್ಟಣ್ಣ, ಬಾಲಚಂದರ್‌, ಮಣಿರತ್ನಮ್‌ ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾ ಬೆಳೆದೋರು ನಾವು’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌. ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾವೂ ಅದೇ ಥರ ಭಾವನೆಗಳ ಸುತ್ತ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಅವರು ಕೊಡುವ ಭರವಸೆ.

ಅಂದಹಾಗೆ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಭಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌ಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರಚಾರವನ್ನು ಬೇರೆ ರೀತಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಕುರಿತೂ ಅವರು ಯೋಚನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳನ್ನು ಟ್ರಿಕ್‌ಗಳಿಂದ ಗಿಮಿಕ್‌ಗಳಿಂದ ಗೆಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಅವರ ನಂಬಿಕೆ.

`ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಕುರಿತು ಇಂದು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಇದೆ. ಕ್ರೇಜ್‌ ಇದೆ. ಸತ್ಯ ಹೇಳ್ತೀನಿ. ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ನೂರು ದಿನ ಓಡಿದರೆ ಅದು ಗಣೇಶ್‌ದು. ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಓಡಿದರೆ ನನ್ನದು’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು. ಇಡೀ ಸಿನಿಮಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ನೀಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಬಿಳಿಯನ್ನು ಯಥೇಚ್ಛವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಅದೇ ನೀಲಿ. ಅದೇ ಬಿಳಿ.

ಚಾಕೊಲೇಟ್‌ ಹೀರೋಯಿನ್‌

ಮಲಯಾಳಂ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಸುದ್ದಿ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ರೋಮಾ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ನಾಯಕಿ. ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡಂತೆಯೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಕನ್ನಡದ ರಮ್ಯಾ ನಾಯಕಿಯಾಗಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ಡೇಟ್ಸ್‌ ಹೊಂದಾಣಿಕೆ ಆಗದೇ ಅದು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. `ನೋಟ್‌ಬುಕ್‌’ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಮೂಲಕ ಖ್ಯಾತಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿರುವ ರೋಮಾ `ಚಾಕೋಲೇಟ್‌’ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲೂ ನಾಯಕಿ. ರೋಮಾಗೆ ಇದು ಮೊದಲ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರ.

`ಯಾವಾಗ್ಲೂ ನಾನು ತಿಪ್ಪೆಯಿಂದ ಎದ್ದು ಬಂದಿರೋ ಥರಾ ಇರ್ತೀನಿ. ಮೊದಲಿಂದಲೂ ಎಲ್ಲದರಲ್ಲೂ ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಅಚ್ಚುಕಟ್ಟು. ಬದುಕಿನ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಆತ ಈಗಲೂ ಒಳ್ಳೊಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸಲಹೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ನಾಗಶೇಖರ್‌. ಗಣೇಶ್‌ ಹೇಳುವ ಒಂದು ಮಾತಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅವರ ಮಾತು ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ಮಾತು ಹೀಗಿದೆ: ಕುಡಿತ ನಮ್ಮ ಚಟ ಆಗಬಾರದು. ಶ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ಗುರಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಚಟ ಆಗಬೇಕು!

ಅಂದಹಾಗೆ `ಅರಮನೆ’ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಕೋಕಾ ಕೋಲ ಕೇರಳದಲ್ಲಿ ತಲೆ ಎತ್ತಲು ಸಜ್ಜಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ‘ನೋ ಮೋರ್ ಕೋಕಾ ಕೋಲಾ’ ಎಂದು ದನಿ ಎತ್ತಿದವರು ಮಮ್ಮುಟ್ಟಿ. ಆದರೆ ಈಗ ಕೇರಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೈಕ್ರೋಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ಕಂಪನಿ ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಇ-ಸಾಕ್ಷರತಾ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ರಾಯಭಾರಿಯಾಗಲು ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದು ಯಾಕೆ ಬೇಕು ಮಮ್ಮುಟ್ಟಿ? ಎಂಬುದು ಕೇರಳಿಗರ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ. ಕೇರಳ ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ವೇರ್ ಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನ ಕೈಗೂ ಎಟುಕಬೇಕು. ಅದು ಕೆಲವೇ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆಯಾಗಬಾರದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಹಾಗಿರುವಾಗ ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ವೇರ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಮುಷ್ಟಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಯಸುವ ಮೈಕ್ರೋಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ಗೆ ಮಮ್ಮುಟ್ಟಿ ಯಾಕೆ ರಾಯಭಾರಿಯಾಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಸಿನೆಮಾ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಲೋಕದ ಗಣ್ಯರು ಬಹಿರಂಗ ಪತ್ರ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಓದಿ..

Open Letter to Mamootty from Free Software Community

Dear Bharat Mammootty,

This letter is to express our deepest disappointment in your involvement with Microsoft to launch their e-literacy program in Kerala and is based on the belief that you have high social convictions and commitment to the people of Kerala.

Kerala’s civil society had in the past been delighted by your decision to dissociate with the Coca-Cola advertisement project as a response to the resource exploitation and pollution caused by the corporate body. However, people of Kerala will be bewildered to see that you are lending your name and fame to support a devastatingly nefarious techno-monopolistic campaign unleashed by Microsoft in our state. We feel your move is both ill-advised and harmful.

Being the Director of a major media initiative (Kairali TV, Malayalam Communications Limited) that claims to be people-oriented both in terms of its initial resource mobilization tactics as well as its professed commitment to people’s causes, it is embarrassing to see that such concerns are completely sidelined in favor of a hideous agenda of a major US based multi-national IT giant, despised even in US for its monopolistic tendencies. In fact there are records of this company using underhanded tactics to enforce its views on an organization like ISO which maintains international standards for public benefit.

We are assuming that you were not given enough information about the IT Scenario we live in.

Software is a tool and a means with which we can achieve a lot of things. In this respect, it is similar to infrastructure like roads and rails. Using Microsoft software is akin to using a road built by a private agency who levies a charge for its use. Any further development of that road and the terms of usage of that road will be subject to the whims of that private agency alone, however insane it may be. Free Software is like an alternate road , with equal or better quality. It is community owned - public property. What modifications have to be done, and where it has to be done is driven by public need and is not influenced by a private party.

When we use Microsoft’s products, which do not give the four essential freedoms in Computing (Right to study, Right to copy, Right to modify and Right to Redistribute software), we are becoming helpless creatures. Non-free softwares like Windows are designed to keep users helpless and prohibit cooperation. On the other hand, Free software believes in sharing and cooperation.

For your kind attention, Microsoft, the company with which you plan to sign the contract, has a track record of being fined $1.35 billion for Antitrust Charges in European Union for not complying with EU standards and trying to avoid giving essential information required for interoperability to others by asking for a huge price. As the report says, “Microsoft was the first company in 50 years of EU competition policy that the commission has had to fine for failure to comply with an antitrust decision,” The Hindu February 28, 2008.

The Kerala state IT policy says motto of Akshaya project is ‘making technology and e-government services accessible to common man’. For making technology and e-governance accessible to common man without vendor lock-in, Free Software (Swathanthra Software) is the only solution available.

In the IANS Report, you said that you want to launch the project “to help make all sections of the society IT literate”. We understand and appreciate your genuine spirit. But selecting Microsoft as an accomplice would be the wrong choice. Making people literate benefits the society as a whole. Proprietary software rejects their thirst for knowledge: it says, “The knowledge you want is a secret — learning is forbidden!” Free software encourages everyone to learn. The free software community rejects the ‘priesthood of technology’, which keeps the general public ignorant of how technology works. The people and Government of Kerala understood it and has already introduced it in our schools and government institutions. So we request you to stand for free software and essential freedoms in computing to fulfill your mission.

Since you have on several occasions expressed your support to the causes upheld by left forces in the country, we hope that it will not be news to you that CPI(M) and other progressive forces in the country have been ardent supporters of free software and as a matter of principle, detest Microsoft’s monopoly built through treacherous market machinations that even the developed countries find unbearable.

It is high time that you understood the implications and ramifications of your support for Microsoft. It seriously undermines your role as a socially committed artist, progressive media leader and sympathizer of leftist politics.

We hope that being a thinking man, you will realize the error in endorsing proprietary software and will persist in your mission of bringing about IT to the common man via free software and open standards. As a great man who has enriched the culture of Kerala and India, please do set an example by using and promoting free software.

We as a body that strives to support free standards and free society through free software, request you to reconsider your decision and be a proponent of free software to achieve your mission to help make all sections of the society IT literate.
